Miraflores Golf Club – “The most social Golf Club on the Costa del Sol”
Located between Fuengirola and Marbella, is home to a challenging yet fair Spanish Golf Course. Conveniently situated in the middle of the Costa del Sol, Miraflores Golf Club is laid out amongst the rolling hills of Calahonda not far from the popular holiday resort of La Cala de Mijas.
Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, the Golf Course is par 71 and measures 5148 metres for Men and 4479 metres for Ladies. The Golf Course has undergone a transformation and offers a real challenge to all levels of golfing ability. Each one of the 18 holes offers a different challenge. The Golf Course follows the natural contours of the valley and is much flatter than its first appearance suggests. There are some fantastic panoramic views of the Costa del Sol coast line and mountain ranges from several of the elevated tee boxes. Water comes into play on several holes so maintaining a clean scorecard may not be as easy as you think. This great Par 71 Golf Course presents golfers of all levels with wide fairways and large elevated greens. The Golf Course is open 365 days a year, subject to weather conditions. It is advisable to book tee times in advance and check availability but many guests and members still enjoy the option to simply just come and play.
Real Club Valderrama – “History, Tradition and Excellence”
Valderrama has been consistently ranked as number 1 in Continental Europe since the late 80’s and has been included in the Top 100 in the World since 1990.
The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6418 meters from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course – nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot.
The course was designed in 1974 by Robert Trent Jones, Sr, one of the great golf course architects, and was originally known as Las Aves (Sotogrande New). In 1984, Mr. Jaime Ortiz-Patiño, acquired the golf course and committed to bringing the course to an extraordinary level, never seen before in Europe. Robert Trent Jones willingly agreed to come back and redesign his original layout of ten years earlier.
Valderrama has since risen in the Golf World rankings to become the No.1 golf course in mainland Europe, a position proudly held since 1989. An arduous renewal process of the golf course has recently been completed to modernize and provide it with new infrastructure and equipment maintaining the identity and excellence of the Club.
Please be aware that visitor tea of times are from between 12pm and 2pm daily and although not the cheapest we are sure you will live this course and all the history it entails.
La Zagaleta – “Private and Unique”
With 36 Parkland holes, the Old and the New course in La Zagaleta settle in an astonishing background of Mediterranean forests with breathtaking views of the Alborán Sea, Africa and Gibraltar.
Both courses offer a dynamic design of doglegs, going either left or right, where hitting the fairways off the tee becomes vital in order to attack small but undulated greens from mid to short range. They are not long courses but they are very technical where a risk/reward strategy is present in many of its holes.
The peace, tranquillity and silence is only broken occasionally by the sighting of a pheasant, a deer, buck or mouflon, permanent residents in La Zagaleta. In La Zagaleta there are no parallel holes and the possibility of seeing anything other than the marvellous wooded areas and natural life only occurs on the spectacular arrival at the imposing Club House, after the 9th and 18th holes. The course has four clearly marked tees per hole, which makes it easier for the player to choose the desired degree of difficulty. This means that one can choose between spending a pleasant day’s golf or accepting a difficult challenge for more expert players.
