The start of Autumn has been stunning here on the Costa del Sol with temperatures in their high 20s and up to the mid-30s well into October. It’s still warm enough to enjoy the beaches and the pool, but due to the time of year, you’ll get it almost to yourself – heaven!
As the crowds depart and the temperatures cool, there’s another big draw to the Costa del Sol – golf. This area is known as the Costa del Golf, thanks to the high density of quality golf courses in a small area. There are a wide range of courses to choose from, depending on your handicap, preferences and budget, from Valderrama in Sotogrande to Finca Cortesin in Casares, Los Naranjos in Marbella to La Cala Golf in Mijas. We’re seeing a growing trend in golfers choosing holiday rentals, rather than hotels, due to their flexibility, space and comfort. They are ideal for golf groups, or families including non-golfers, as they offer a comfortable base for a holiday, even if you’re not playing and can be excellent value as well.

Los Naranjos Golf Club
Los Naranjos is conveniently located in Nueva Andalucia, close to Puerto Banus, Marbella and San Pedro and this area is known as the golf valley, due to the high density of courses in a very small area. This is a great area to stay for golfers wanting to try a range of courses with little travel time, and non-golfers wanting to enjoy great restaurants, beaches, shopping and nightlife.
The golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior and opened in 1977, with gently undulating, tree-lined fairways and large bunkers. It is rated very highly on TripAdvisor for the condition of the greens and fairways, the layout and really good service. The club house is also very popular for golfers and non-golfers alike.
We have a holiday rental townhouse in Los Naranjos with three bedrooms, a private garden and pool. This spacious property sleeps 6 and would be ideal for three couples, or a family, looking for a number of golf courses within walking distance and a lovely base for a relaxing holiday.
Torrequebrada Golf Course
This golf course in Benalmadena comes top of the 10 best golf courses in the area according to TripAdvisor reviews. The course was designed by José “Pepe” Gancedo, known as “the Picasso of golf” and is popular due to the quality of the course, challenging layout and beautiful scenery, it is also close to Malaga airport, so very convenient for a golf holiday. Reviewers call it “The greatest course ever played”, “top course” and the “best course on the Costa”.
We have a two bedroom apartment for rent in Torrequebrada in a lovely residential complex, right by the golf course. It is bright and comfortable with a fantastic east-facing terrace with lovely views and makes a comfortable and practical base for a golf holiday. Benalmadena has a lot to offer vistors as well, including a lovely park, cable car with bird of prey show, a pretty marina and lots of bars, restaurants and nightlife options.
Finca Cortesin
This 18-hole championship golf course is one of Europe’s longest layouts and highly praised by the golf community. Designed by Cabell Robinson and opened in 2007, he set out to create a course where “no hole has less than championship quality” and according to Top 100 Golf courses, this vision is rapidly turning into a reality. The service and 5* facilities, including a Jack Nicklaus academy come very highly recommended.
We have a great three bed holiday rental apartment close to Finca Cortesin, on the pretty complex of Casares del Sol. It is a very short drive up the hill to Finca Cortesin, and a short drive to the beach of Casares Costa. It is also conveniently located to play the highly regarded courses of Sotogrande and to visit the pretty white village of Casares. The community has six communal pools and tropical gardens, and the apartment is very comfortable for a golf break. It is a ground floor apartment, with a comfortable lounge and dining area and a lovely south west facing terrace and a fully equipped, modern kitchen.
